The Coffee Brands of my Memories

Sitting in a Swiss cafe and tasting a real Italian espresso

Some brands stick in our minds forever. Can you ever forget the jingles from the TV ads of your childhood, for instance?..Me neither 🙂

The same is true for some Italian coffee brands that are very popular and somehow make it into our family lives and stay there forever. Whenever I see one of those coffee brands while abroad I feel a bit at home again. The times of moka and family at the table come back to my mind and I get the same feeling of being in a warm, cozy place.

Today I was sitting at this very much underrated cafe inside the train station. You know how it is .. train stations are rather known for fast food restaurants and travellers’ cafes; they are usually full of people waiting and rushing back and forth. Even more so I was very surprised to see the quality of the coffee and tea offer, as well as the lovely service. And right here I have found a typical Italian coffee brand that I have been missing for so long: CaffĂ© Kimbo. To most of the people sitting in the cafe it probably did not say much, but for most Italians this is one of the classic espresso staples at home.

Naples is home to great quality espresso and for Neapolitans “a tazzuriella e cafĂ©” (a little cup of coffee) is religion. It is precisely in Naples that CaffĂ© Kimbo was born out of the desire to bring the real taste of Neapolitan coffee to the world. The great tradition starts in 1963 when the
‘the Kimbo trademark was created, a name that evokes exotic lands where coffee beans are cultivated’. The revolutionary vacuum packaging techniques that had just been launched immediately made it possible to share the same coffee quality with the rest of the world – coffee was able to travel and break the barriers of geography and culture. This was more than just a commercial gig, it was the first step that made Italian coffee so famous.
